Wild Plant Guide

“The Wild Plant Guide can offer you a number of different packages from spring to autumn, just two miles away from the sea! The area is right in the middle a truly wonderful wild food treasure trove down on the Jurassic coast, a World heritage site.

Over the course of the weekend, you will learn a range of practical knowledge, giving you a solid foundation in numerous aspects of foraging, plant identification, and wild food cookery.

A whole host of gourmet wild foods are waiting for you at the seaside, including: Sea beet, sea purlsane, rock samphire, marsh samphire, alexanders, wild carrots, sea leeks, sea kale, seaweeds and shellfish. We will show you different harvesting, preparation and culinary techniques, and on both evenings settle down to enjoy wild food at its best.

Arrive on Friday evening or Saturday morning for a prompt 9.30 am start. Then over the weekend, we will take you through a range of topics, from essential basic botany and identifying wild foods, to evaluating different habitats.

You will also learn about foraging and the law, as well as sustainability issues prevalent to the area and to species living here. Most importantly though, you will get to know the wild foods intimately, through the the hours spent foraging and learning how to prepare and cook on the open fire!”
