Foraging Courses from Bay Tree Cottage
“Explore the Northants countryside with an expert forger and discover the abundance of delicious plants & Fungi that are available in our hedgerows and woodlands for the keen forager to find.
Foraging for wild food is fun, but you need to be sure you know what you’re doing and what you are looking for! Our one day courses are a real eye opener to all the edible plants that are available for the wild food forager to find….a total feast for free!
The workshops are run by Geoff Dann, a very keen and knowledgeable forager who has been gathering wild foods around the country for many years, and is now joining us at Bay Tree Cottage to share his expertise to help us identify some of the edible plants that we have growing on our doorstep in Northamptonshire.
As well as lots of edible plants, this will also include some poisonous species too, for example Lords & Ladies (arum maculatum), foxgloves, common ragwort and hemlock water dropwort … so we know what to avoid too!
In addition to our local wild produce, he will bring a selection of finds from his own foraging for us all to see, which will hopefully include some costal plants like marsh or rock samphire, sea beat, karle or purslane. So if our foraging exploits extend further afield we will know what we are looking for!
It will then be time to don our wellies and head out to start our foraging which will include a walk across local farmland and a guide through two woods …so do make sure you are equipped and dressed for the weather! Geoff will identify all the plants we find – edible, poisonous or just common – and tell you how you can use them and any interesting facts he knows about each plant. And we will collect enough of each edible species for us all to try!”
